What the extension can do, and why
VS Code extensions do not ask for individual permissions, so here is everything Treelace uses:
- Runs your
gitprogram (as a separate process, with fixed arguments and never through a shell) to read history and, when you confirm an action, to change your repository. This is the whole product. - Reads your repositories through git only. It does not scan or upload your files.
- Writes files only when you ask: git changes you confirm, an exported image you save, and, while an interactive rebase is in progress, temporary files (plus, if it pauses, a note of their location in the repository's
.gitfolder), deleted once the rebase is over (the privacy notice says exactly when). - Secret storage: keeps your Pro licence key in the editor's secret storage on your device.
- Network: only the Pro licence renewal above, plus push and fetch to your own git remotes when you click them.
- Opens your browser at treelace.com when you choose "Get Pro" or "Manage subscription".
- Link handler (
vscode://nikahai.treelace/activate) so the purchase page can activate Pro with one click, after you confirm. - Workspace trust: Treelace is disabled in untrusted (Restricted Mode) workspaces, because git can run commands configured inside a repository.
