Terms of Service and End User Licence Agreement
In short: the Treelace extension is free to use, including on private and commercial repositories. Pro is a subscription for one person, unlocked by a licence key. Git actions only run after you confirm them. Cancel renewal any time. Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected.
1. Who we are
Treelace is provided by Nikah AI Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17199968), registered office Office 1216, 60 Tottenham Court Road, London W1T 2EW, trading as Treelace ("we", "us"). Contact: support@treelace.com.
2. What these terms cover
These terms, together with our privacy notice and refund and cancellation policy, apply to the Treelace extension for Visual Studio Code and compatible editors ("the Software"), the Treelace Pro subscription, and the treelace.com website and licence service. They are the licence agreement (EULA) for the Software. If you use the Software for an organisation, you confirm you may accept these terms for it.
3. Your licence to use Treelace
3.1 Free edition
We grant you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the Software on any number of devices, for personal or commercial work, on any repositories, including private ones. No account is needed.
3.2 Pro
A Pro subscription gives one named person a licence to use the Pro features on any number of devices they personally use, for as long as the subscription is paid up. It is not a site or team licence: each person who uses Pro needs their own subscription.
3.3 What you may not do
- sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the Software, or publish modified versions of it;
- share, publish or sell a licence key, or use one bought by someone else;
- remove or bypass the licence check, or help anyone else to do so;
- copy, decompile or reverse engineer the Software, except to the extent the law allows you to (for example under sections 50A to 50C and 296A of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988); or
- use the Software to break the law.
3.4 Ownership
We own the Software and the Treelace name and logo. The Software was written from scratch by us. Open-source components, where any are used, are listed on the third-party notices page under their own licences.
4. Your code and data
The Software runs the git program already installed on your computer and shows its output. Your code, commit history, author names and email addresses stay on your device; we never receive them. The Software collects no telemetry. The only network request it makes on its own is the Pro licence renewal described in the privacy notice, which sends your licence key and nothing else. Push and fetch run only when you choose them and connect only to your own git remotes, using your own git credentials, which the Software never sees.
5. Git operations that change or discard data
Some actions you can start from the Software change your repository or remote, and some can discard work permanently. They include hard reset, deleting branches and tags, deleting a branch on a remote, dropping a stash, force push, and interactive rebase.
- Before any of these actions runs, the Software shows a confirmation dialog naming the action and what it will do. Nothing is run unless you confirm. Hard reset, force push and force-deleting an unmerged branch each ask you a second time.
- The action is carried out by git itself, with the options shown to you.
- Because you choose to confirm each action, it is your responsibility to decide whether to go ahead and to keep a backup of work you care about (for example by pushing it to a remote first).
Our responsibility for problems caused by the Software is set out in section 9. In particular, if the Software does not do what it says, for example if it runs a different action from the one you confirmed, the limits in section 9 do not reduce your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. We are not responsible for data lost because an action you confirmed did what the confirmation said it would do, except to the extent that the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other law does not allow us to limit that responsibility.
6. Buying Pro
- Treelace Pro, monthly: £2.99 per month
- Treelace Pro, yearly: £29 per year
- Prices are in pounds sterling and are the total you pay. There is no free trial.
- Subscriptions are paid in advance and renew automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel.
- Payment is handled by Stripe on its own checkout page. We never see or store your card details. The checkout page shows who the seller of record for the payment is. Our Stripe account uses Stripe's managed payments service, so the checkout page currently shows "Sold through Onelink": Onelink (the reseller named on Stripe's checkout page) takes the payment under its own terms, handles any tax on it and handles payment disputes, while we remain responsible for the Software, your licence and support. Your contract for the Software and Pro is with us.
- The contract is formed when your payment is confirmed and your licence key is shown to you.
- We will not increase the price of an existing subscription. New prices apply to new subscriptions only.
- If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it. Pro keeps working for up to 3 days after the renewal date while that happens and then locks until payment succeeds. The free features keep working.
- Pro is sold to adults aged 18 or over.
7. Licence keys
Your licence key is shown on screen straight after payment and can be recovered at treelace.com/recover with the email address you paid with and the invoice number shown on your purchase page and order confirmation. We do not send keys by email. Keep your key private: anyone who has it can use your Pro subscription and open your billing portal. The Software checks the key on your device without contacting us. While your subscription is active, the Software renews the key about once a day; if you turn renewal off, you will need to paste a fresh key before the current one expires. If you publish your key or otherwise seriously break these terms, we may cancel your subscription and refund any unused part of the current period.
8. Cancelling
You can stop your subscription renewing at any time from the billing portal at treelace.com/manage. Pro keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for. Your 14-day right to cancel, and when it does not apply, are explained in the refund and cancellation policy.
9. Our responsibility to you
If you are a consumer
- We supply the Software and Pro with reasonable care and skill. Where you pay for Pro, it must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If it is not, you are entitled to a repair or replacement, or if that is not possible or does not fix the problem within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience, a price reduction or refund.
- If digital content we supply damages your device or other digital content because we did not use reasonable care and skill, we will repair the damage or pay you compensation.
- We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, for business losses, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control.
If you use Treelace for business
To the extent the law allows: we are not liable for loss of profit, revenue, business or goodwill, or for any indirect or consequential loss; and our total liability arising from these terms in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of £100 and the amount you paid us for Pro in that period.
For everyone
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
10. Updates and availability
We update the Software through the Visual Studio Marketplace and Open VSX. We may change features to improve Treelace or keep it working with new editor and git versions. We will not remove a Pro feature listed on the pricing page during a period you have already paid for; if we have to, we will refund the unused part of that period. The Software needs Visual Studio Code 1.85 or later (or a compatible editor) and git installed on your computer.
11. Other products and services
Treelace is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Git project, Software Freedom Conservancy, GitKraken, GitLens or Git Graph (mhutchie). Git and the Git logo are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Software Freedom Conservancy, Inc., corporate home of the Git Project, in the United States and/or other countries. Other names are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to identify their products.
12. Ending these terms
You can stop using the Software at any time by uninstalling it and cancelling any subscription. If you seriously break these terms, we may end your licence; if you have paid for a period you will not be able to use, we will refund the unused part.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts of that country. Please contact us first at support@treelace.com so we can try to sort things out.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law or in Treelace. The version and date are at the top of this page. Changes do not apply to a subscription period you have already paid for unless the law requires them.
